ISLAND SOUP KITCHEN FUND RAISING EVENT

RYDE ESPLANADE HOTEL

9th NOVEMBER 2018

7:00 pm

THEM 2- LAUGHTER LINES

‘Revisiting their Ventnor Fringe show, Laughter Lines, for an appreciative audience in the packed function room at Ryde’s Royal Esplanade Hotel, Donna Jones and Joan Ellis took turns to present versions of their own and others’ history, through readings, poetry and prose.

Self assured, they performed individual sketches and vignettes, more in the style of THE TWO RONNIES’ monologues than a traditional double act – together yet apart. Donna machine gunned her poetry and rattled through anecdotes, her Barnsley accent adding texture to her short stories about brittle families – including her own; with discourses on menfolk, menstruation and other unmentionables.

'Donna’s bare-knuckle poem about her cervical smear test- brought tears to the eyes. The event raised £500 for local food hero Trevor Blaney’s latest project, Waste Not Want Not, a charity restaurant serving donated food to helping people struggling with poverty and

homelessness.' - Catherine James-County Press.
